CenturyLink believes that peering agreements should enable the delivery of quality services to customers, and are the foundation of a fair and open Internet. Carriers must structure fair and equitable interconnection relationships that are designed to deliver fast, secure, reliable and quickly scalable Internet services to those customers. Traditional peering relationships and practices were implemented when traffic was dominated by email and text-based communications, and periodic interruptions in Internet service were common. Today, residential, governmental and commercial users rely on the Internet for rich content and applications, and demand better performance in an increasingly dynamic Internet environment. Fair, equitable, scalable and secure interconnection is essential to deliver that experience
Identify, negotiate and close Internet peering interconnection contracts and related contracts (e.g., deep edge caching). Negotiate with carriers and network operators for interconnect capacity and other programs related to traffic exchange.
Communicate progress internally, and collaborate with a wide variety of internal teams including product and business development, legal, network architecture, deployment and executive leadership. Coordinate all regional interconnection activities at a global level.
Drive revenue growth in emerging markets by establishing Interconnect strategy, identifying Interconnect partners and exchange points that match strategy and establish relationships to provide a high quality Internet service product. Work with Vendor Management and Core planning to plan backbone improvements. Understand and maintain cost inputs for emerging pricing regions. Provide input to commercial teams and Product Manager on large deals. Develop Business Cases for major expansions.
Effectively utilize cost models and network performance reporting tools to understand traffic data, network performance and the cost of interconnecting networks.
Represent CenturyLink with regulators and in public forums around the world in order to promote fair interconnection between network operators that supports the continued growth of an open Internet.
Work closely with internal and external provisioning teams to ensure that peering connections are upgraded in a timely and effective manner.
Author Product Requirements Documents as well as Technical Product Specifications for the Internet Services products.
Evaluate new peering requests through development of business cases in conjunction with Product Management and Product Finance groups.
Foster relationships with strategic CenturyLink customers by discussing our Interconnect strategy with them. Identify areas for Interconnection improvement through these conversations.
10 years relevant work experience, including technical and commercial knowledge of operator network topology and architecture, and IP routing, as well as experience working in a senior IP network planning or implementation role at an ISP, telecoms operator, or carrier.
Experience encompassing technical, commercial and legal areas of the above business segments.
International experience, with fluency in English.
Additional languages preferred.
Strong data-driven analysis and problem solving skills.
