Job Responsibilities:

The Hosting Infrastructure Engineering (HIE) Internship offers unique learning experience, providing a hands on insight into the operation of a number of Infrastructure teams who support the CenturyLink Network and Server Estate. Depending on existing skills and the willingness to learn, the successful applicant will have the chance to work with the following technologies: Windows/Linux/VMWare Operating Systems, Cisco ASA, A10, Juniper, Hewlett Packard Server Automation, Node, Mongo DB, Powershell or similar languages. The successful applicant will also gain insight into Release Management (change management and execution), Project Management and Agile development methodologies.

  • Support the Infrastructure teams in their day to day operations

  • Create, manage, monitor, validate and execute Change activities across CenturyLink Network and Server Infrastructure

  • This will involve executing software updates to the host Operating System’s and related applications

  • Enhance and develop scripts and automation that can assist the Infrastructure teams in their day to day operations

  • Where necessary enhance/produce supporting documentation and procedures that will assist the Infrastructure team

  • Effectively work with geographically dispersed teams managing the daily workload

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A working knowledge of at least one of the following server operating systems: Windows, Linux or VMWare.

  • Have an understanding of how to implement and follow best practice scripting standards

  • A specific language is not required, moreover be able to understand structure, functions, arrays etc and be able to transport that knowledge to multiple languages

  • An understanding of basic network principles with a willingness to develop this knowledge

  • Be able to follow process, developing where necessary

  • Must be a self-starter who is focused on learning

  • Have a positive attitude, seeking to contribute to the Infrastructure team via excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with other technologists and business partners to maintain high service levels in a demanding environment

  • Ability to work well in team environment

  • Excellent verbal, written and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong literary skills – be able to communicate effectively in a number of

different written and verbal mediums

  • Exposure to managing small to medium sized projects

  • An ability to analyze and develop complex scripts used to manage and maintain the infrastructure

  • Understanding of Agile development methodologies
