The Onsite Technical Architect shall:

  • be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Supplier's on site technical architect resources;

  • be responsible for the Supplier throughput of the Customer server build process;

  • be involved in Customer Service Reviews as required;

  • be the primary escalation point on site for issues with the server build queue;

  • identify process and procedural improvements which will provide better value for the Customer;

  • provide the Customer with information on the new product enhancement(s) that the Supplier has brought to market;

  • receive, respond to and follow-up Customer queries to conclusion;

  • be familiar with the Customer's business, services and requirements in general and be responsible for managing Customer satisfaction within the Supplier consultancy group;

  • represent the Customer internally within the Supplier organisation and work with Customer to maximise the Customer's use of Services;

  • act as the primary point of escalation for all project-related technical issues that relate to the Supplier's consultancy group, ensuring appropriate escalations are made for response; and

  • notify the Customer of upcoming holiday entitlement for Infrastructure Build Engineers.

Project Responsibilities

The Onsite Technical Architect shall:

  • provide the Customer with a dedicated project resource, with responsibility for leading one or more projects as defined by the Customer;

  • be responsible for understanding, producing and presenting the project Technical Design Document as per the Customer's internal process;

  • schedule, run and present issues and recommended resolutions to the Customer's technical representatives;

  • be responsible for management of all technical tasks, self-assigned as well as those with other internal or Third Party project resources;

  • be responsible for prompt and appropriate escalation of any issues which could impact project schedules;

  • be responsible for hands-on role during implementation and support as required;

  • represent the Customer with third party suppliers and developers as required;

  • build engagement with all key project stakeholders, including business users and support teams, to ensure a smooth transition from project to a live service fully meeting project objectives;

  • provide technical direction and recommendations on points of risk or issue within the project;

  • understand and accurately categorise risks and issues across the entire project, not just within the technical arena;

  • work proactively to overcome and mitigate project issues;

  • present any required changes to design or implementation in an easy to understand way;

  • be comfortable dealing with colleagues from technical resources right through to senior management and project sponsors; and

  • understand the financial and contractual impact of any design changes.

Team Responsibilities

The Onsite Technical Architect shall operate as part of the Customer's strategy and architecture team and, in addition to the project responsibilities, the following areas will fall within the remit of the Onsite Technical Architect. The Onsite Technical Architect shall:

  • identify areas of improvement within process, procedure or technology, and present options to execute the improvement identified;

  • provide support and assistance to colleagues within the Customer's strategy and architecture team, as well as the wider customer IT and business functions, as required:

  • build and maintain excellent relationship with Third Party suppliers, assisting with technical or process issues as required;

  • have a broad understanding of the 'bigger picture' and the longer-term direction of the Customer's IT strategy, and be clear on how current or proposed projects work towards achieving that goal;

  • question designs or decisions which do not align with long-term strategy or project objectives; and

  • produce clear written documentation, having the ability to present complex information in a way which can be easily understood by the relevant audiences.

Technical Responsibilities

As a full time technical resource within the Customer’s Strategy and Architecture team, The Onsite Technical Architect shall possess knowledge of the following areas:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008Familiarity with the operating system, features and in-built functions;

  • Microsoft SQL server 2012Database creation, security, backup strategies and high availability features, basic SQL queries, to assist system deployment;

  • Microsoft IIS 6Site creation, virtual directories, security, certificates, application pools, ability to read code, host headers, log files;

  • VMWare ESX 5.1 + and vSphere 6

Navigate the Virtual Centre console, understand networking, storage etc – admin level

Understanding of design considerations when implementing virtual server based systems, DRS, vMotion, VLans etc;

  • Microsoft Active Directory 2012

Understand the following concepts:

  • Sites and replication topology

  • Organisational Units

  • Domain security and group nesting

  • Group Policy

  • Name Resolution

Understand DNS and WINS, how name resolution works in a DMZ without DNS. Although not a name resolution technology also includes DHCP;

  • Microsoft SharePoint 2007Application creation, security, Sites and subsites, create libraries and basic sites, backup strategies, resilience and fault tolerance, webpart and application deployment across farms, logging and troubleshooting;

  • Microsoft Exchange 2010

Understanding of integration with Exchange mainly SMTP, including mailbox permissions and how to configure email gateways within applications;

  • IP networks

Understand routed networks, WAN implications, IP addressing, subnetting, VLAN’s, IP version 4, static routes, DMZ implications, protocol ports;

  • Microsoft Cluster

Configuration, resource creation, dependencies;

  • Load Balancing

Configure Network Load Balancing. How to load balance a solution, session persistence, session distribution options, understanding of methodology for system design and documentation;

Powershell and basic SQL scripting knowledge required.

Understanding of XML useful for Web Application design and deployment;

  • SAN Storage

Understanding of SAN technology and methodologies, to ensure accurate system design and implementation;

  • Cloud Technologies

Understanding of common Cloud technology services, their risks and limitations, and how they can be integrated with internal systems securely;

  • Web Application design and deployment

Familiarity with the issues and challenges of Web Application delivery,

Understanding of SOAP, WSDL, XML and other protocols and communication methodologies to allow detailed system design and deployment to be carried out;

Integrating the above software and being able to understand the end to end processing within a solution. Working with third party software such as scanning, autonomy etc.
