Title Engineer II Req ID 5496BR Posting Location WA,KENT Business Unit Network Services (Engineering) Position Classification Management Job Description * Successful candidate will plan network telecommunications facilities, proactively identify capacity needs, and ensure implementation of Outside Plan network facilities and elements within a specific geographic area, typically using standard equipment configurations and network planning architecture rules. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> * Uses multiple planning toolssuch as FIREWORKS, LEIS/LEAD, TIRKS, OSP-FM, current field conditions, customer demand and requirements, technical and engineering requirements and budgetary considerations to make decisions among several alternative solutions. * Ensures Planning records and systems remain accurate for the geographic area. * Provides plans and works closely with Network Operations and Engineers regarding information affecting capacity requirements. * Administer the network insuring adequate Network Facilities are available to meet all customer demand in the most cost efficient manner. * Develop Planning Documents, just justifications, and ensure all equipment, resources, and costs are identified to get the plan approved and funded; to include specifications and construction requirements for equipment selection and safety. * Plan and manage network growth additions for single or multiple classes of plant (OSP, Transport, Data, Switch) primarily at a Wire Center level. * Serve as central point of contact in responding to and resolving all Network Planning issues relating to outside plant in various Wire Centers. * Identify and analyze customer needs (specifications, requirements, etc.) to formulate viable economic design solutions based on resources, costs, and business impact. * Interact with customers, developers, government officials, business office groups, and other partners to plan and review work, share technical and project information, communicate project progress, assess service delivery, and manage the accurate and timely completion of projects. * Translate conceptual / verbally articulated project specifications and requirements. * Initiate work orders associated with new projects, existing OSP facilities, and OSP network design. * Project manage design work packages in an efficient and effective manner to ensure tasks, milestones, and goals are meet defined timelines and satisfy customer service requirements. * Define all tasks, resources, equipment, etc. requirements on work orders to determine accurate overall project costs. * On occasion, perform site surveys as part of provisioning duties to create detailed site maps identifying utilities, obstacles, etc. and exactly where facilities are and will be placed. * Identify and consider the impact of issues, problems, and solutions on the business and customers in order to make the most effective decision. * Demonstrate high personal work standards and ethics in all assignments and customer interactions. * Structure and convey ideas and information, both verbally and written, in a concise, effective and persuasive manner to bring clear understanding to the target audience. * Research Held Orders to determine specific requirements and formulate solution for how to provide service; process held order resolutions and network design enhancements. * Utilize Excel to create spreadsheets, input and manage data, and analyze reports. * Utilize Word to create, edit, format, and save business documents and reports. Job Requirements Qualifications: * Candidate must be a self-starter and able to work under limited supervision to accomplish a wide variety of tasks. * Strong written and verbal communications skills are required as well as the ability to work with well within a group. * Understanding of Network Architecture and Fundamentals (Sonet, DWDM, FTTX, MOE, Pair Gain Systems). * Ability to read construction work prints/engineering records and interpret work prints in order to create accurate facility requirements. * Ability to navigate through, toggle between, and/or input information into multiple systems and/or applications. * Valid driver's license, with a satisfactory driving record.
