Job Description
The Tier II engineer is highly a skilled individual contributor working on complex network systems equipment installation and /or maintenance assignments. Tier II Engineers use advanced technical expertise and problem solving resolution skills at the VA onsite providing guidance and direction for subordinate field/site engineering jobs. Additionally, they will provide the following services/Functions for VA:
Schedules and prioritizes activities of subordinate site/field engineering jobs.
Provides on-site coordination of related activities (ordering equipment, interfacing with engineering staff and customers)
Serves as a technical resource for a large geographical area.
Has strong knowledge of products and platforms from multiple vendors.
A technician for VA network systems, installation, and/or maintenance activities.
Resolves complex network problems involving power, network hardware and software, lines, modems and terminals.
Use software and hardware tools to identify and diagnose network monitoring equipment installation and maintenance activities; resolves complex trouble tickets.
The Tier II Engineer Serves as a subject matter expert in service, production, or support area of responsibility.
The Tier II Engineer must be able to work any shift as assigned.
Job Requirements
Strong telecommunications troubleshooting skills desired.
Five years of relevant work experience as outlined above
Familiarity with advanced IP routing protocols a must.
Cisco certification is a plus.
Possession of, or ability to gain, US Public trust (SF85) clearance
